Florence hit the nail on the motivational running speech’s head when she crooned “run fast for your mother and fast for your father, run for your children for your sisters and brothers…”And as I laced up my Asics to hit the road for night #2 I decided it was exactly what I’d do tonight.
The weird thing about training is, well, actually doing it. But beyond that, the weird thing is that in a few months I will have worked up the strength and endurance to make it through a long distance run at a consistent pace for which I can be happy. In the meantime, because I have not actually gone for a run in about a month, the low mileage that I am covering doesn’t seem to be as small of a feat as it would appear to be on paper.
Luckily, my fitness guru and amazing friend saw my cry for help to stick to this goal and shared Jerry Seinfeld’s words of wisdom…if you want to check it out, the article can be found at: http://lifehacker.com/281626/jerry-seinfelds-productivity-secret
Basically, Jerry enlightened a fellow comedian with a motivational calendar idea. By tracking productivity and accomplishments on a calendar by allowing yourself to mark an X on a day only when you complete the task toward your goal you create a chain. The chain creates a visual image that you do not want to break, and therefore you do not want to skip a day of working towards your goal.
So here it is… staring me in the face… As I grapple with the fact that I must be accountable now that my plan is out in the open, I realize that I am torn between thinking that I should be careful what I wish for and being ecstatic that if you ask you will receive. Support to keep me accountable. Exactly what I asked for. And now I will go farther, faster, longer.
