Sticking to training right after you start over becomes a little bit more difficult when you wake up to the rain. I knew it wasn’t the time to give up though considering I just re-started and Grete’s Great Gallop, the half-marathon that I registered for to complete my NYRR 9+1 program, is only a week away.
To motivate myself I tapped into nostalgic memories of my travel soccer days about fifteen years ago. If I remember correctly, the best games were the rainy games. Since I’ve never been that competitive I found it more appealing to see how muddy I could get rather than trying to steal the ball or score a goal. So today I put on my best ten year old mentality and laced up my sneakers for a rainy run in Central Park.
After my run I walked over to Katelyn’s since I was in her neck of the woods and I switched from my new running playlist to Pandora. I don’t want to wear out my running playlist too quickly since I will be heavily relying on it for upcoming long races. I continued to listen to Pandora on my walk home from Katelyn’s and as I hit play, John Mayer came on coincidentally singing about the rain. Usually I leave you with what I’m running to, but today’s a two for one deal because I quickly became obsessed with this song!
To warm up when I got home, to be ready to save money on food and to eat healthy this week, I whipped up spinach pasta with brussel sprouts, grilled chicken and marinara sauce. Trader Joe’s spinach pasta is amazing, and maybe I’m wrong but I’m going to tell myself that it’s healthier than regular pasta.
Overall, restarting this training program seems to be off to a good start. I think my mantra for the week is going to be rain, rain go away, and if not I’m going to have to run anyways…
