Last week after picking up my race number at the NYRR office I decided to walk home from the UES. It’s not the shortest walk, but I had some window shopping to do, and it was a nice night, so why not? Since I pretend I live the lifestyle of the rich and famous I decided to make my way over to Fairway Market on 86th between 2nd and 3rd because KtKark had been raving about this little gem. Since the reality is that I am living the lifestyle of the broke and the normal I had to hold off on making any delectable purchases until pay day, but I perused the aisles anyways.
Today the day finally arrived when I had the opportunity to indulge in the amazingness that Fairway exudes. Just to clarify – although I couldn’t afford to make any purchases last week, Fairway is extremely affordable. To give you a sense of what you can expect for grocery prices I would say that Fairway prices are slightly above Trader Joe’s and extremely below Gristedes. But I guess that doesn’t narrow it down all that much. All I can really say is that I’m happy KtKark enlightened me to this foodie heaven, because it certainly lives up to the hype.
I think nearly every section of the store was my favorite section and I can’t think of a single item that I wanted that they didn’t have. One of the best sections out of all of my favorites was the soup and salad section. For as long as I can remember I have been addicted to/obsessed with soup – to the point that I refer to my excited facial expression as the soup face…so it is no surprise that the homemade (storemade) soup section caught my eye. It’s hard to find good soup that tastes homemade and I haven’t developed enough patience yet to make my own soup.
Today’s training had called for a maintenance run, and I had wanted to accomplish multiple things at once, so I ran the four miles to Fairway and then walked home with my healthy purchases. Somehow the walk home came to five miles but I’m still trying to figure out where the extra mile came from. Regardless, with my run/walk combo I was able to get nine miles in today, with an added bonus of an accidental arm workout. These items were actually really heavy-
As soon as my weak arms recover from carrying tonight’s purchases home, I guarantee I’ll be making another trip to Fairway.
