Sandy has been, for the most part, mild…((so far))
This wonderful day started off how I wish every day started- with a nice hot Cinnabon frosted to perfection. Obviously this isn’t in the typical pre-marathon plan but it seems like a special occasion.
While the weather seemed like any other rainy day, the lack of people wandering around the city streets has been a little bit eerie. I wasn’t willing to give up on working out all together, but I also was not willing to run into the face of the storm just to get in some mileage. So today was a makeshift cross-training day. I started off with a 15-minute Women’s Health Magazine “Tone at Home” workout, added a few of my own circuit workout moves and then did two sets of stair workouts. The stairs in Eric’s building consist of 14 flights and believe it or not doing two sets was enough to break a sweat. I’m chalking it up to the toning at home and circuit moves before.
After a quick indoor workout I ended up running into the face of the storm anyways with Jess and Anna. The wind was wild, with gusts and squalls according to weather.com. We made our way over to the East River and crossed into unchartered areas for a brief moment, until the cops came and chased us away.
Even though nothing too serious has happened yet, I am already realizing that there is so much to be thankful for. Great friends who I’m lucky to spend the day with; great family who I wish were closer- but I’m happy are safe; the fact that on most days I get to take a hot shower, so I won’t complain today that the hot water is out; and for the little while longer that this electricity lasts, I am thankful for that, too!
Stay safe, everyone! It’s getting crazy out there!
