I feel old saying this, but I can’t believe the holidays are already here. I’ve been looking forward to coming home for the holidays, but the first couple of weeks of December went by so quickly that I didn’t even have time to get into the holiday spirit. For no reason at all, though, I woke up Friday morning and it all of a sudden felt Christmasy.
To my coworkers dismay, I wore a bright red shirt, candy cane earrings and jingle bells in my hair. I couldn’t even help it; it just happened. In full Christmas swing, I made my way to the office for a short day, and anxiously anticipated a fun train ride home with Eric, Anna and Christa. As much as we have all tried to be fans of the Megabus, Boltbus, Fung Wah, etc. we’ve had one too many bus fiascos over the past 3 years to travel this way for Christmas, and we all splurged for Amtrak tickets from NYC to Boston (or various stops along the way since we were going to different places). And of course, given the splurge and the occassion, we felt that it was necessary to pop bottles of champagne. Poppin’ bottles became even more necessary when Christa miraculously made the train at the last possible second, via pedi-cab, sprinting, and searching car after car.
Eric and I got cut out, but this will be the only way we travel from now on.
After a fun-filled train ride, and a short car ride, Eric and I had made it home for the holidays. My mom, ever the hostest with the mostest, had a full spread of food waiting for our arrival. We had joked on the train about what we thought would be waiting; I had guessed home made soup and he had guessed sandwiches. It seems that we both know her well, since we arrived to homemade soup and sandwiches. I thought that I had gotten into the Christmas spirit already, but after walking through the door, I was absolutely convinced. There really is nothing like being home for the holidays.
Luckily, Eric was able to come home with me for Christmas. Since we both have been extremely stressed, Eric with finals and me with work, we postponed 4 year anniversary celebrations. Yesterday with the stress left behind in NYC, we started the day with a couple’s massage at The Right Touch Day Spa. If you are looking to get a massage I would highly recommend The Right Touch in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. This was the second time that Eric and I have gotten a couple’s massage here and I can’t imagine going anywhere else.
To continue the anniversary celebrations we decided to head into Boston for dinner and drinks. After my uncle recommended a full list of restaurants, we called and made a reservation at Post 390 located in Back Bay. Eric started with a 21st Amendment Fireside Chat and a Salad of Market Lettuces, which included poached pears and duck proscuitto. I started with the Pear Drink (I was sold when I saw that this included prosecco) and Lobster Buttercup Squash Bisque. The appetizers and drinks were delicious. For our main entrees Eric had the Char-Grilled Brandt Farm Skirt Steak and I had the Grilled Atlantic Salmon with mustrard dressed brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious. I made an attempt at being sophisticated by asking for wine recommendations while Eric glared at me for making small talk, but ultimately, we made our own decision and went with the Aquinas meritage wine. We didn’t have room for dessert, but we stayed and enjoyed the atmosphere while we finished our wine. It was a great 4 year celebration; better late than never!
Tonight we are off to La Salette Shrine to look at the Christmas lights. Not that I need any more help getting into the Christmas spirit, but this will be the icing on the cake.
Tomorrow is officially the first day of Marathon Training. Merry Christmas Eve to me. I may have to come up with a full Christmas Running Playlist. If anyone else is running a marathon towards the end of April and hasn’t found/come up with a training plan yet I will be posting mine tonight here.
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season! Happy Holidays 🙂
Is anyone training on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day?
Does anyone else run to Christmas Music or am I going overboard with Christmas excitement to make up for my last minute Christmas Spirit?
What I’m Running to: Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays- NSYNC
