Variety is the spice of life…is it though?

When it comes to food, I think that everything is good in moderation and variety is the spice of life (in theory) (and, did I seriously just say two cliche statements in one sentence?)

Since I have been training, I have been paying more attention to how different foods help and hurt my training.  For the most part, I’ve been eating balanced and healthy meals because it makes it much easier to power through a long run, intense workout, or even a short maintenance run when my stomach is happy, too.  But every once in a while I cave.

Even when I’m in a healthy phase or on a health kick, I have an undying love and craving for pizza.  Since this week was a little crazy for Ahnzie and me, we decided to stay in last night.  I wanted to tackle a few things that I put off throughout the past week, like the mound of laundry that was starting to torture me.  But, it was Friday after all so a makeshift pizza party was also in order.  Right now Trader Joe’s has whole wheat pizza dough (1 point for the healthy team), so we got whole wheat pizza dough, quattro formaggio cheese, fresh basil, low fat turkey pepperoni and “trader giotto’s” pizza sauce, and we threw it all together for a somewhat healthy version of  a Friday night pizza party.

We anxiously checked the oven every two seconds waiting for our “masterpiece” to be finished.

Fine, the shape is far from perfection, but we liked the pizza so much that we made another one tonight!

Do you ever get hooked on a specific food, or do you stand by the cliche that variety is the spice of life?
Tomorrow kicks off the first day of my new training plan.  I’m finalizing the details tonight and will be updating my training section soon.

If anyone has any awesome hill/interval/speedwork suggestions please share them with me!

  1. Seriously, that's a delicious looking pizza!
I can get stuck in the same type of food when it comes to FRUITS! I don't know why?! Lately, I'm so obsessed with cantaloupes/melons and persimmons!

  2. That's so good that you are craving fruits! Much healthy than pizza haha. I just picked up a huge bowl of cantaloupe at the grocery store, so hopefully this will kick off a fruit obsession for me too.
