Jokes All Around & A Sneak Peak at Coldplay

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m extremely gullible, and I’m pretty sure it’s not much of a secret to anyone else either.   Despite this known truth, when someone asks me if I want to run a race with them, I typically assume they are serious.  So, several weeks ago when it was time to submit an entry for the NYC Half Marathon lottery, my friends said they thought I would not be doing it since it happens to fall on the same day as the New Bedford Half Marathon.  I was a little confused, but after checking Facebook I realized my sister wanted me to run with her for her first half marathon.

I was psyched!  I love an opportunity to convert non-runners into runners (even though I’m a recent convert myself), and my sister can certainly hold her own, but this would be a first.  So I thought why not make it a family affair and ask my mom to run it, too! After convincing my mom to do her first half marathon, I couldn’t wait to tell my sister.

Turns out, Belle’s full of tricks and it was just a joke.  While she may not want to run this half marathon on St. Patrick’s Day, my mom and I were already too excited to cancel.  So we are all registered as of yesterday!

Where my Massachusetts’ runners at? There are still open spots in this race and from reading up on The New Bedford Half I found out it was ranked one of the top 25 Half Marathons in New England by Runner’s World and the top Half Marathon in New England by New England Runner’s magazine. If you register before midnight today  (12/31/2012) it’s only $50!

It may have been a joke- but I’m thrilled  with the outcome, so thanks Belle!

Anyways, this long weekend has been amazing and has felt like a full vacation!

Saturday night E and I went to Friend of a Farmer right around the corner from our apartments for dinner. It was a cozy little restaurant and it felt like we were eating a home cooked country style meal.

Cute staircase display
I’m trying to start eating more marathon friendly meals so I got the Gramercy Park Salad with Blackened Salmon and a glass of red wine (because I needed antioxidants, of course).

I may have also nibbled on E’s mashed potatoes because they were unbelievable

After dinner we rushed over to the theater to catch Les Miserables.  I loved it!   Hearing the rawness of the actors singing without pre-recorded songs brought a lot of emotion to the show.  But after having one too many coffees/cappuccinos on Saturday, I found it hard to sit still for the full length of the movie – which resulted in me randomly burst out laughing at inappropriate times through the final ten minutes of the show.  Despite that, go for it! It’s a must see.

Sunday I stuck to the plan, and added 2.5 miles on to my regularly scheduled 10 miles.  So, as promised week 1 of training= success!

I was also psyched to run because it gave me an excuse to wear my new Lulu Lemon Running Jacket from E’s parents

And given that Sunday’s run was a long one, I got to see the wintery scenery of Central Park and the East River all in one swoop.

After a busy start to the weekend, I quickly got ready for Coldplay, ran to E’s to meet everyone, and we made our way to the new Barclays Center for an awesome show.  Though I didn’t need any more convincing that Coldplay is unbelievable, their show put my opinion of them over the top.

With the final hours of 2012 settling upon us, and before New Year’s Eve festivities begin, I want to cross one thing off my to do list for the year; and that is doing something that scares me.  It may be ridiculous, but for me, this means trying SoulCycle.  Though I have heard positive things, spinning and I haven’t always been on the best terms. We’ll see how this goes!

Are there any last minute things you want to check off your 2012 to do list?

What’s everyone doing tonight to bring in the New Year?!

I hope everyone has a happy, healthy and safe New Year’s Eve!
