I didn’t mean for it to happen, but I really ended up milking these bronchial spasms for all that they’re worth. Even though I’m still not feeling 100%, and I have unfortunately fallen off with training, I’ve finally revamped my training schedule and am ready to jump right back into it tomorrow.
While I took a temporary hiatus from training, I noticed a few changes in my eating habits, and became very in tune with my sleeping patterns as well. Time off from running really made me think about how connected everything is in my body. I’m a bit of an extremist, and I realized, I kind of do things in an “all or nothing” fashion. When I’m training, I’m eating healthy, and when I’m eating healthy I’m training. The downside to my extreme mentality is that over the past week and a half, while the miles were on hold, the junk food was not. I have to retrain myself to crave fruit and vegetables, because let’s be honest, that delicious chocolate chip cookie from Gracefully is not going to fuel a long run (however, I was psyched to read MyNeonRunningShoes and find out that peanut butter M&Ms are a good source of fuel for long distance runs since they include protein, fat and carbs).
On the positive side, I’ve been trying to sleep more than I usually do while I’ve been sick, and I finally realize how much getting sleep can impact your next day. More sleep= more energy, better focus, more motivation, more patience, etc. It took me long enough, but something’s gotta come out of me bailing on training, right?
Anyways, moral of the story, I think a healthy lifestyle breeds healthy habits and vice versa. Though I’ve definitely indulged in bad habits over the past week and a half, I realize that it doesn’t have to be, and definitely shouldn’t be, all or nothing.
How was everyone’s weekend?
How did you stick to a healthy lifestyle this weekend?
Do you ever fall into the “all or nothing” mindset?

I struggle with sleep almost every single night. Just not something that has ever happened consistently for me. ughh. 😦 It is TERRIBLE to deal with!
I can really relate that when I'm exercising, that's when my diet is the best. It's a cycle and pattern, that's for sure!
I struggle with the sleep and junk food all the time! I am also an all or nothing and it has become very evident since being in London. Goodluck tomorrow getting back in!
It's so hard to get into a good sleep schedule! I tell myself I'll work on it, but I notice that when works crazy it makes me want to stay up later to unwind and then I fall back into a bad schedule.
You seem to be in a great pattern though! Good job!
You have a great excuse, though! I hope you are having a blast in London!
Thank you so much! So far I'm two for two this week with sticking to training…but it definitely is hard to get back into a groove.
that's awesome that you were able to tune in to some other healthy habits! I feel like my eating and sleeping are all better when I'm consistently running, which is unfortunate as it would be better to eat even cleaner when off 🙂
It's so much easier when everything's in balance isn't it!? I'm hoping that I start incorporating things that I realized while I wasn't running and getting everything back in balance soon. Happy to know I'm not alone with this!
